17 years ago, Byrnes Tech founder JD Byrnes started as a sole trader, providing IT consulting and IT support for small businesses, as well as contracting for Avoncore, a company which provided sales for AAPT and Optus, two large telecommunications providers in Australia and New Zealand. By 2008, JD started trading under the trading name of JelTel, a portmanteau of the words "JD & Liz Telecommunications", which had now moved into directly reselling TPG's products to the Australian market.
In August 2020, during the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, Byrnes Tech Pty Ltd was formally registered with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) and commenced operations in Sydney, Australia. Byrnes Tech was able to set up a small contact center for Get Outta Here, a small independent travel agency which was to become the first Flight Centre Independent branded agency. As the pandemic continued and travel was limited within Australia, the company was able to expand its operations to re-purpose the contact center to provide additional staffing for the Freedom Insurance Remediation Program, a program administered by Genus Life Insurance Services, a child of NobleOak Services Ltd. Initially, NobleOak had requested assistance for 3 months, but at the request of the client, we were able to extend the contract to 6 months, and then again until the program was completed.
